Ottawa spending $200.7 million for housing for seniors
The federal government is spending $200.7 million over two years on construction, repair and adaptation of affordable housing for seniors, starting in 2016-17, Finance Minister Bill Morneau says.
The minister was commenting on the contents of the latest federal budget in a visit to the Hugh Garner Housing Co-operative in Toronto on April 22.
He said the investment will improve housing conditions for more than 5,000 low-income senior householders.
“This will in turn promote inclusive growth and lift more Canadians out of property,” Morneau said.
